A new book and supporting exhibition, in celebration of contemporary Caribbean Architecture, was launched at the Medulla Art Gallery in Woodbrook, Port of Spain, on 19 November 2015.

The book, ‘Contemporary Caribbean Architecture’, by Trinidadian architect and photographer, Brian Lewis of acla:works, is a collector’s limited edition, large-format publication, showcasing 50 design projects throughout the English and French-speaking Caribbean. The exhibition, the first of its kind in the region, was curated from images within the book and features large-format, high-quality prints.

As part of the exhibition and book launch Medulla Art Gallery along with the Trinidad and Tobago Photographic Society hosted a presentation, Photographing Architecture on December 2, 2015 at Medulla Art Gallery

Brian Lewis spoke about his work and process in documenting  the buildings , the equipment used and the challenges of producing and publishing a book .

A discussion followed the presentation moderated by Mark Lyndersay, photographer and writer.

About the author and photographer:

Brian Lewis qualified as an architect at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London in 1970 and has been in private practice for over 40 years. He has had a lifelong passion for both architecture and architectural photography and is well known and respected in the Caribbean, in both fields.

Lewis’ long-standing interest in photography began at age 12 when he met Norman Parkinson, the world-famous fashion photographer that his firm would later design a house for in Tobago. More recently he has decided to make architectural photography a second career acquiring the necessary specialized photographic equipment and attending a number of architectural photographic workshops. Lewis is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers, American Photographic Artists and the International Association of Architectural Photographers.

Contemporary Caribbean Architecture is published by LUMIS Photography and acla:works.
